Sponsor Advertisements

This page is to demonstrate the different types of advertising that this site supports and to define fixed sizes so that it is easier for everyone to produce and submit content.
I started out with SUP Centre because I had the content, but then I realised that I probably should do this for BrisSUP Club. Next version.
This is a work in progress and we are happy to take advice.
Generally I don’t like too many things moving/flashing/animated on a page. I suggest we limit automatically animated things to one per page. OR at very least a long transition time between images to reduce the impact.
This page is not linked to any menu, page or post so that it can not be stumbled upon or found by browsing the site.

YouTube Video

Essentially we can take any YouTube video and embed it in a page or post, the video here is scaled to 640 by 360 pixels, which is the smallest YouTube size for embedding, but the video is Standard HD on YouTube. One draw back(?) is the videos do not autoplay, I like it this way but that might be personal preference (SK). Audio can be added to the video, as with any YouTube video, just this one has none.

Animated GIF

Displays as 600 x 314 pixels, which is half the size of the Facebook Ad (1,200 x 628 pixels). This should make it easier for sponsors to re-task existing adds, as they can provide their existing Facebook advertisement and we can do the reduction automatically in the display code.

Animated GIF version takes a bit of work on both sides to produce, but the result is nice and compact. We used MS PowerPoint Presentation to produce a slide show, then export the slide as a series of PNG images. We then take these images into GIMP, add timings, and produce the Animated GIF. Once you have worked out the PowerPoint it is very quick to produce, so doing update is relatively quick if the look and feel is staying the same. No problem with font matching as they are all images.

html Sponsor Ad

Displays as 600 x 314 pixels, which is half the size of the Facebook Ad (1,200 x 628 pixels). This should make it easier for sponsors to re-task existing adds, as they can provide their existing Facebook advertisement and we can do the reduction automatically in the display code. As these are static ads, it is must easier to produce but are lower impact. Can be restrictive as you have to be careful to choose fonts that are common.
